Ziggy Williamson: D&D 4th Edition, we’re playing a homebrew campaign. We’ve been playing this for a couple years now. We meet whenever we can, but every year we play a game at DragonCon, drop-ins are always welcome, and we always put the most work into the DragonCon game. As you can say, I have pages of notes. We’ll be playing this game all weekend. The setting is called Dead’s End. It’s sort of a mish mosh of Tolkienesque normal D&D fantasy tropes with a late 19th-century American West. There are a lot of fantasy-Western mixups. Ours is less cowboys and more “There Will Be Blood.” The main character is Wesley Persico, who is an elf who left his family’s canned peach business to start prospecting for oileum in the west. We have a Mexican vampire priest named Padre Ignacio, so it’s a Western fantasy. We’ve been playing it for awhile, and we’re actually making a board game based on it.
What are people playing at DragonCon 2014?
Paul /Jeff?: We’re playing Dominion: It’s a very classic game that’s very popular right now. There are a number of different cards, but it’s a non-collectible card game, which is nice so you don’t have to keep buying packs. The goal of the game is to build a deck out of the cards on the table, and earn victory points in your deck. There are actions, reactions, a lot of strategy because there’s a bunch of different actions and the cards all interact differently together. Every game’s different, there are 30 different options for your cards out there.
And there’s different expansions and stuff?
Paul/Jeff: There’s the base set, and probably a dozen different expansions out already. (Ed. 8 expansions, 6 promo cards) Dominion 38% off!
What, in your opinion, are some of the characteristics of D&D 5, that make it better, than the previous editions?
Robert: I think it’s super flexible in character concept and creation. It is a story-driven game and it has faster combats, those are the big ones. There are other things, I’m sure, but those are the ones that spring to mind immediately.
