I was thinking about the Wizard utility power Lvl 6, invisibility.

Is a daily with sustain standard, could it possibly be used out of combat to gain sustained invisibility for long periods of time? or is there a restriction on that?

No restriction that I'm aware of. Perma-invisibility for as long as you can stay awake to sustain it.

Per the rules for 'Sustained Durations' (RC p227), "Limitations: The creature can sustain a particular effect only once per round and for no more than 5 minutes. During that time, the creature cannot take a short or an extended rest."

So even out of combat, the longest your Wizard can stay invisible with this power is 5 minutes per day (unless he has some sort of feat/class ability/racial ability/magic item/disease/curse/etc that modifies this, of course).

Basically, the way things are now, 99% of 'powers' are short-term, one-combat affairs, and for longer-term effects, you need to use rituals.

There are exceptions, of course - some powers explicitly work over multiple encounters, or all day, or all night, but those exceptions are few and far between.

Though it would be interesting to have a total freak show for a party, with perhaps one human as a face man..or at least on who could appear human.
