http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx ... 103warlord

This free article is the Essentials-style write-up for the PH1 Warlord, with no mechanical changes. I'm glad it's free, because there is nothing new here, other than a little bit of errata. If this leads to more groups playing Warlords, I'm all for it.

the only non-errata change I could find was Defining Warlord as the class, Marshall as the class type and Tactical/insiring as the Build. While it helps clarify things a bit it seems like a strange level of complexity in the Essentials style.

Also means I need to update my player Database to include the difference if i want to track it...

I'm kinda confused about what this actually IS.

"The type of warlord you can create with this book is the marshal, which first
appeared in the Player’s Handbook as the warlord."

that sentance makes no sense to me.

The PDF has a few power choices...but they are from PHB.

I just don't quite understand what this thing is.

This is the PH1 Warlord written in Essentials style and now (presumably) free for everyone to use whether or not they ever bought PH1 or D&D Insider. If you compare the way Classes are written in the Player's Handbooks with the way Classes are written in the Essentials "Heroes of" books, there are some differences. This is (almost) the same information that is present in the Player's Handbook 1, presented to people who presumably have never seen anything other than the Essentials books before. The Marshal as a subcategory of Warlord is not necessary yet, but I assume there will be a new subcategory of Warlords in the future. I don't much care for that precedent, as it makes me think that every single class is now going to be given a subcategory name that will include all the (non-Essentials) builds that have already been published for that class.

If this write up of the Warlord is any indication of what Heroes of Sword and Spell was turning out to look like, it's a very good thing they didn't try to publish it as a book.

This is the prettiest errata ever, according to one of my friends.

Also, this is (likely) what the canceled Heroes of Sword and Spell book would have probably looked like. Kinda glad they canceled it. I already own PHB 1.

Darkwolf, this material was originally slated for the now-retired Class Compendium

I thought the book was titled Heroes of Sword and Spell?

Or was that something else?

Either way, I'm glad that the Class Compendium articles are free instead of packaged in a new $30 book.
