Has anyone been successful today downloading this thing? WotC's web site appears to be dying under the strain of so many eager playtesters.

Maybe we should give it a day or so?

Nope... 40 pages is not a bad read.

I got access a couple days ago and downloaded it today. Pretty slick, from what I've read so far. Simplified rules and stats, which makes sense as this is modular.

I could run a campaign with this...well, with pre-gens, that is.

I like the concept of contests but I can't say how well the rest will work. I need more information about races and classes.

Contests are not new...they are just opposed checks. Those have been around since 3e and maybe back to 2e. I know it was always common for me to roll opposed checks.

I like the advantage/disadvantage concept. That's pretty cool and easy to apply. I also like the idea of building most everything around the six attributes.

As long as WotC doesn't break the DC/Bonus math, we should have a solid playing base system to build from.

And unfortunately, I can't verify that for you because my current 2E DM has tweaked his house rules so much that I'm not even sure if we're playing with proper 2E rules anymore. I think we use opposed checks in some diplomacy/bluff situations. He also has a deluxe crit chart, lots of recycled 1E content and he's recently adopted 4E initiative system, which is far simpler by popular vote. We play a frankenstein version really... But it's mostly 2E rules, with a few modifications.

Yep kind of sad that I won't be able to go to our local shop for it but did sound like it will be a lot of fun. Have to work a 14 hr day on that day but they mentioned a number of games locally that they are doing that seem like they would be pretty fun and interesting.
